Notes
“…An informal song-swapping session with a group of Texans, New Yorkers, and Englishmen exchanging bawdy songs and lore, presented without expurgation…”

Recorded in Texas, 1959.
The first edition of this notorious record was issued in a generic white cover without any printing whatsoever.  Song titles are listed on the disc labels, but none of the many performers are credited anywhere on the release. Included inside the cover sleeve was a large, 14-page booklet explaining the history of the songs, as well as a large disclaimer presenting the recorded material as a scholarly document which, along with the generic white sleeve and anonymous performers, were evidently measures taken against possible charges of obscenity.
Some of the performers have been ostensibly identified by researchers: tracks B4 and B10 are attributed to Mance Lipscomb, tracks B5 and B11 to Buster Pickens, and track B12 to Lightnin’ Hopkins.
