Hi Downhomers,

For this edition of our newsletter, our longtime manager John McCord has chosen and reviewed five new CD releases he thinks you ought to know about -- from early demo recordings by Kris KristoffersonSandy Denny, and Phil Ochs, to the latest albums by stalwarts Elvin Bishop and Asleep at the Wheel

And we have SPECIAL DEALS on three items this week: a 4-CD set of Fats Domino's legendary Imperial recordings, a wonderful book of New Orleans photos by the late Michael Smith with interviews by Arhoolie Foundation Advisor Alan Governor, and a rock bottom closeout price on The Accordion Babes 2010 Pin-Up Calendar and CD! Scroll down for details.

Also, Chris has made some new additions to his ongoing hallway sale of 78s and LPs. He just put them out on Sunday - so come by this Thursday and be the first the pick through this latest batch of Country, Blues, and Jazz 78s. The best stuff goes fast!

And if you haven't been by the store in a while, we think you will be surprised how much John has restocked and kept up with the huge variety of genres we try to carry. Drop in and see for yourself!

Come find us on Facebook! And don't forget to check out our eBay store for some of the more collectible items we have to offer. Lots of excellent vinyl and a quickly dwindling number of classic super 8 films in pristine condition. They won't last much longer!

Elvin Bishop

Red Dog Speaks

This local blues treasure keeps it exciting with a new album that builds on everything he learned in his early days in Chicago and down south. Aided by John Nemeth, Tommy Castro and others, Bishop rips through eleven new and recycled blues and soul numbers with enthusiasm and his still-joyous spirit.

Sandy Denny & The Strawbs

All Our Own Work

Lovely first recordings by the fabulous Sandy Denny, including her first take on her classic, "Who Knows Where The Time Goes." Hers was the best voice of English folk-rock, and even before the Fairport Convention, she dazzles. This CD includes all cuts from the complete LP, along with fine out-takes and demos, with Dave Cousins and band adding to the spell of her voice.

Asleep At The Wheel & Leon Rausch

It's A Good Day!

Asleep's Ray Benson continues his championing of western swing with this fine CD with Bob Wills' last great singer, Leon Rausch, still in fine voice on a selection of bluesy, driving swing tunes.

Kris Kristofferson

Please Don't Tell Me How The Story Ends:
The Publishing Demos 1968-1972

Previously unreleased demos from the silver-tongued devil's early Nashville career, stripped down but wonderfully effective. With great photos and notes that describe the birth of such classics as "Me & Bobby McGee", "Border Lord" and others.

Phil Ochs

On My Way: 1963 Demo Session

Still more demos, these from the passionate pen of Phil Ochs. Recorded for his pitch to a long forgotten folk group, they capture 25 songs sung before his later fame and recording career. A few, like "Power & The Glory", "Morning" & "New Town", were on his official LPs or recorded by others, but many are unreleased, including "The A.M.A. Song", "Talking Cuban Crisis", "Spanish Lament" and many others.
